Book: Free At Last

Free At Last

By Warren Litzman

Today, there are so many different forms of grace that most believers have little or no concept of what Bible grace really is. This ignorance of true grace has produced a "religious commingling" that is contrary to rightly dividing the truth. This book brings the believer back to truth that will set him free as never before. It is a textbook for Christ-life believers and all those who want to be free in Christ.

Introduction
I was raised in a home with devout parents. My mother was Baptist, and my father was Methodist. Needless to say, there were ample religious arguments in our home. There was one thing common to both parents which made a mark on me, and that was their utter devotion to the ‘laws’ that made their respective religion work. Somehow, remembering back, the most apparent thing was their keeping of the law. Of course, my life was to be shaped by their law-keeping. Though I went to a Baptist University for training, I was greatly prone to the law. When I joined a denomination, it was a “law denomination,” and for thirteen years I was subjected to doctrines that did not fit the way God created me.

Raised Under Law
I did not know the difference until in 1960 I had a revelation that Christ lived in me. During those 13 years, I taught Bible in the denominational colleges and preached all over the world without the slightest message of grace and none of the message of the Christ-life. That was because the truth of grace and the Christ-life was practically unknown by the many who preached and worshipped in that denomination. Even though all the believers in this group were born again and believed in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, their doctrines were maintained by law.

I state these things just to give a background behind the writing of this book. One does not make the change from “being kept by the law” to grace and truth by Jesus Christ without a radical change in thinking as well as a general crisis. It was the crisis that finally directed me toward grace. With Paul, in Romans 7, I was severely slain by the law. It was this “slaying” that turned me to grace. When I realized I had made a mess out of my life trying to keep the law, the Scriptures opened up anew to me, and I saw that Christ in me was the real me to God. What a miracle!

But, growing in grace was a new world to me. I would be foolish to tell you that I came to the fullness of Christ within myself. My heavenly Father was most patient. For years in my preaching He had suffered my commingling of Scriptures. The Christ I had in me all this time suffered from my looking for Him outside myself. I had little or no concept that He had been birthed in me when I was born again.

Many Teachers
Notably, I had quenched the Holy Spirit, for as I look back over the years, His still small voice was always telling me about Christ in me, but I did not pay attention because that was not my doctrine. I had plenty of help from the Holy Trinity when the fullness of time came for me to know Him. Also, the many mortal men whose books I read through the years were a great help to me. Men like Andrew Murray, Norman Grubb, Watchman Nee, Louis Chafer, Dwight Pentecost, John Walvoord, Robert G. Lee, John R. Rice, Arthur Pink, and many others such as Jessie Penn-Lewis and Ruth Paxton. Much of the writing in this book is drawn from the help of these people. Yet, the fullness of Christ is a progressive revelation, and this book goes beyond the grace that many of these earlier writers saw, into the revelation that grace means Christ is the only life within the believer.

Because the Christ-life is a continuing revelation, this writing can only speak of what the Spirit is saying to the Church at this time. While there is no new truth to be added to the Bible, we see that there is constant revelation of the things we have not seen. This book must not just be read. It must be studied. Search the scriptures herein and you will see Jesus. I have three aims in this writing.

One: The believers who are locked in law-religion, slain by the law, who must be delivered. I believe this book will help them.

Two: The believers who want to go on into the deeper truths of God can be helped. Law-religion is a dead-end; no one can advance by it.

Three: This book is aimed at the unconverted. I believe many souls have rejected Christ because of law- religion. Note, even those who are born again but continue in law have given in to law, the religion of self-effort, and the unconverted know this. When the unsaved see and come to know Christ not only as Savior but as their life, they will have what they have been seeking. Do not hesitate to give this book to the unsaved.

Finally, the very title, “FREE AT LAST,” is the battle cry for the hungry heart. To know that you are free from law is to enter God’s ultimate intention for your life.
