“Surely he hath borne our grief’s and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isa. 53:4—5).

“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed” (1 Peter 2:24).

There are some precious truths in these verses, for both texts speak of the word bare. He bore our sins, our sorrows, our iniquities, our sicknesses, and our diseases in His own body. Notice also that both texts repeat the idea that by “his stripes we are healed.” Too often, the modern church has been denied this truth about healing and they have been denied the true gospel. Multitudes of good, Christian people attend church in buildings where they do not hear the true gospel. This is regretful in our generation because our generation is really sick and diseased. Our generation is mentally sick, as well as soul sick. We are like a people who live in the midst of plenty and starve to death. We are a people who live at the divine fountain of health, but we are dying with sickness and disease. Likewise, even though men hear of the gospel, they suffer because they are not hearing the true gospel of Jesus Christ.
